Guys, just got back from the iPhone Tech Talk held today at New York city. This was the first year I attended the event. I was not confident that Apple will accept my registration as we’re just 1 app old in the App Store, but fortunately they approved and I got this chance.
Well, the overall experience was awesome and inspiring. The event was well organized and Apple folks were very supportive. The sessions were very informative. There were 15 sessions (3 each at a time), held post common kick off session, so I could attend only 5 of them. Wish I could have attended them all
I attended following 5 sessions today.
1. iPhone User Interface Design Essentials
2. Preparing and Delivering Video for iPhone
3. Integrating Web Content into iPhone Apps
4. Mastering OpenGL ES for iPhone – Part 2
5. Implementing Push Notifications
Out of these 5, I really liked #1, #3.
The first session about the UI Design Essentials was very well organized and delivered to the audience, and it covered I guess most of the topics required before designing the UI of an app. Especially for “small garage” developers (got this word from there
) like us, who have limited budget and resources for the UI work, this information can really help in not only creating an appealing app but also saving extra dollars/resources by getting only the precise work done from UI professionals. I had downloaded the document for this from iPhone Developer Center long back, but never actually read it. But now that I have realized the significance and impact of this aspect of iPhone development cycle, I am going to read that document along with my notes that I took today. I am sure this will help me think better now for our future apps.
For the third session about Integrating Web Content into iPhone App, during first 5 minutes I thought it may be boring but then when the speaker started about the CSS capabilities of WebKit and the comparisons with equivalent JS versions of code and their impacts, it turned out to be a mind blower. I knew about WebKit’s extra capabilities through CSS but to see it in action and those comparisons with equivalent JS code were just amazing. Can’t wait to try it out myself.
Rest of the sessions were good too but not much appealing to me, may be because I have not yet worked in those areas. But I do plan to start on them soon.
Again, the overall experience was very good. I look forward to attend more of such events in future. Thanks to Apple!
